Printers compatible with WPA2 AES-based CCMP encryption

Why doesn't EERO identify printers compatible with WPA2 AES-based CCMP encryption?  (The printer manufacturers do not identify this compatibility in their literature.  Did EERO establish a standard that is not yet adopted by printer manufacturers?)

  • Hello,

No. eero has not developed any type of standard that is not already widely in use in relation to devices connecting to a wifi network. It is up to the printer manufacturers to decide what their printers can and cannot connect with. I am fairly familiar with getting printers connected to eero networks. What brand and model of printer are you having difficulties getting connected to your network?

Is it possible that your printer might only be able to connect to 2.4 GHz networks as well. You can temporarily disable the 5 GHz on your eero network to try and connect up your printer through the eero app. I have provided a link below that will help guide you through that process.

  • Your instructions at the link were helpful and allowed successful connection of most printers.  The one printer indicating it is connected on the printer, but not on the eero app is a Brother MDW-9840CDW.  Please advise.

  • I have a HP Officejet 4620 and facing the same issue with the printer not being compatible with WPA2 AES-based CCMP encryption.  Any ideas how to resolve this?  I really hope to avoid replacing the printer which is still in very good working condition.

Patricia The only “fix” I am aware of is to connect the printer via Ethernet.  I am having to replace my HP Envy printer, which is quite old, and I plan to buy a new Envy and connect via Ethernet to my iMac.  It really is very annoying.

    • Hello Zoulfi ,

Printers with WPA2 AES-based CCMP encryption are supported by eero. Try the steps listed in the article below. Make sure you clear out any old network information that might be stored on the printer. You also may need to temporarily hide your 5GHz. You can do this through the eero app.

Settings -> Troubleshooting -> My device won't connect -> My device is 2.4Ghz only

    • Hello Zoulfi ,

Does your network SSID have any special characters in it?

    • Hello Zoulfi ,

Special characters in the SSID are a frequent cause of printers disconnecting and not being able to reconnect after sleep mode. Try removing the special character from the SSID and then connect up the printers again.

    • Hello Zoulfi ,

From what I have been able to gather, when the special character is the problem, the printers are able to see the network and sometimes connect to the network but they drop offline after a time. Sometimes it requires a reboot to the network to fix, and other times just the printer. Since most printers are running on different firmware the cause can be different for every instance. But we're work our way through the most common causes.

    • Hello Zoulfi ,

I'm using an HP at home. This should work. I would recommend calling our support so we can take a look at your network and get some additional information from your printer. If you can get some time stamps we can check the logs as well. Our phone support is open until 8pm PST.

However, if you would rather work over email we can do that as well. I'll send you a direct message soon on how to get an email to me.

  • Hi,

I have a HP Deskjet 2632, it does not seem to have an Ethernet port nor USB (very odd I know) and I cannot connect it wirelessly as it only supports WPA… any other ways to connect it? Or should I save up some pennies?

  • I have just bought a Canon PIXMA TS5160, and cannot for the life of me get it to connect to the Eero Wifi network - it never asks for a password, just tries and fails to connect. It connects to my phone's hotspot with ease.
