Device is 2.4GHZ but sometimes connects at 5GHZ

I have an outlet that requires a 2.4 GHZ connection.  It appears that sometimes it is connected at 2.4 GHZ, but other times it is connected at 5 GHZ.  It works wonderfully when it is connected at 2.4, but doesn't work at all when it is at 5.  How can I adjust the connection so it is ALWAYS at 2.4?  I separated my network so I have both 2.4 and 5, and when I connected the device I chose the 2.4 network.  Why does it sometimes try to go to the 5 network?

  • I have since figured out that this is not the problem.  For some reason the device is requiring that my phone is on the same eero as the device.  And, the device keeps jumping back to the main eero unless there is something else attached to the eero that I need to extend.  It will only connect to that eero if my phone is also connected to that eero.  It's very strange.  I wish we could assign the eero to the device so it would never change.
