Use local device connection to update status

I've noticed that sometimes my wifi goes down because of the network router.

But rather than opening the app - seeing an offline status there and then. I open the app and it says online.

My hunch is that the network status is reliant on the eero connecting and reporting to the web and then down to my phone. Rather than the eero's communicating directly to the app locally on the network.

That seems a longwinded and inefficient route to communicate status.

My suggestion: allow the app to communicate directly on the wifi network with the router, let the router derive its status from the internet.

I.e. internet goes down: I open app, app syncs with eeros = eero communicates network down locally

rather than

internet goes down, I open app, app requests info from internet... i continue to be told the network is fine when it's not. Eventually, the eero server does a check (presumably time-based) and systems pick up that my eero's arent online, app takes ages but eventually reflects info.

  • This is a no brainer eero. Let the app communicate directly with the router regardless of the internet connectivity. The current system is just stupid. I am glad I kept my 2 Asus RT-AC86U AiMesh routers and that I have until January 31, 2021 to return these eeros.

    • your app continues to have a delay when the eero gateway internet drops off the internet..   this should be real time... why cant your app on the phone and also local in the network - check with the eero gateway locally, instead of using the status from the cloud?

many IoT devices communicate loccL first, then cloud... some provide an attribute to select the cloud or local for status updates.

your current cloud methodology is misleading for the user.. a local request to the gateway eero would make status as realtime as possible for the user

rogerss2010 doesn’t seem like they’re interested in fixing it, the current setup is messy and misleading though.
