How to release WAN IP address?

I'm using FiOS, and they only give me one IP address (which my eero currently has).

I'm going to be inserting a firewalla router between ISP & Eero, so I need to get the eero to release the IP address, so I can then have the FIrewalla request a new one.

Make sense?

How?

  • ... Or, I could clone the MAC address. I copied down the MAC addresses for the two ports on my node that is connected to my FiOS ONT. Left & Right. Is that when looking at the back of the unit I presume?

  • Hello Scott,

IP Addresses are assigned by the router and not the device. Normally you just need to power cycle a Modem Router Combo for a few minutes to clear the flash memory and in so doing you clear the IP Address assignment to the device that was connected to it previously. I would contact Verizon FIOS to find out how they handle clearing IP Address assignments on their ONT.

    Thank you,

  • Yup, that's what I ended up doing. I was just wondering; some other routers/modems give you the option to release the IP address so that you can put another device on line and pick up a new IP address.

    But all set!
