Lock a device to a band

I want the ability to force my phone onto 5ghz because I get roughly 500kbps when connected in my bed to 2.4ghz versus 80+mbps when on 5ghz.  Signal strength shows full “bars” on both networks but the 2.4 spectrum is too crowded in my area.  My device is an iPhone XR and I have no idea why I end up on the 2.4 band most of the time.  Band steering is on.  My current solution is just to turn off WiFi use cellular.  I would gladly buy more eero pro’s to ensure 5ghz signal strength around my home if I could guarantee my phone would use it!

Please allow band pinning in eero labs, if it didn’t produce a good experience then one can simply turn it off, but right now I have a poor experience that prevents me from recommending this system.

Also I have in the past needed to connect an iot device to the 2.4 ghz band and found that difficult without pinning.

Clients determine what AP they connect to, not the AP.

txgunlover  I know that my phone is to blame, I set my laptop that never leaves my home to only use 5ghz and it works flawlessly from bed , but the fruit company in Cupertino won’t give me the ability to lock to 5ghz so I am asking for Eero to step in here.  I don’t know if there is a way to make band steering more forceful or for it to attempt to steer more frequently, but those ideas could get me to where I need to be as well.

Ideally we could lock chosen devices to a given band.

Sometimes my Apple TV will hone in on 2.4ghz and stay there with greatly degraded video and connection quality. (Not sure why it does this since whenever the Apple TV is on 5ghz it has full WiFi bars.)

Then I have to restart Eero, Apple TV, or both to get the Apple TV back on 5ghz.

Alternatively if band steering was more aggressive about locking 5ghz capable devices onto 5ghz that could help.
