Static Routes

It would be very beneficial to be able to add static routes on the Eero gateway. I have multiple VLAN's for different types of users/workloads which has the SVI on the VLAN. Default route on the VLAN points to the Eero, that's where the trouble starts. Since Eero doesn't have VLAN support it can't route back. Adding static routes on the Eero gateway would fix this issue.

Would love to attach my home work network to the Eeros, but without this, I can't... What a massive miss!

My use case - I have a Ring Alarm Pro which has Eero built in. I can't use it as the primary router in my house because I have another building on my property with a separate subnet/router and that requires a static route. So I'm stuck with the Ring Alarm Pro sitting in bridge mode behind another router, which causes me to lose many useful features (e.g. backup internet for the alarm system). Please add the ability to configure static routes! This is a basic feature.

I just starting using unraid and dockers with a wireguard VPN and discovered i need to create a custom route to fix connectivity to my containers.....    let's just say I'm quite let down by this limitation of eero's.  =(

I love the mesh technology but I’ve had enough. Switching to Pfsense and putting the eero in bridge mode. Overall router/firewall functionality is abysmal.

mcl1008 could you share what has frustrated you? Just curious. Helpful info.

      Thx!

Lack of functionality such as static routes, can only manage using my phone, no web interface. Network ad blocking doesn’t work well, would rather use Pi-hole but can’t use custom DNS servers or all other eero plus features won’t work.

mcl1008 gotcha! Thanks for responding. I would say that this eero system does not necessarily lend itself towards the techie needs. It's probably just great for families without a lot of technical needs other than just accessing the internet.

I am not sure why the devs have not yet considered this as there are 8 different requests for implementing static/dynamic routes... The implementation of static routes will help a lot people having home labs and use our Eero as the primary router and also for people who need access to their modems (satellite, cable, etc.) to view the status and administer it for troubleshooting purposes.

Below are links for the same request.

every step of the way, EEROs inadequacies seem to get me.  I want to isolate my IoT and IP camera traffic from the rest of my LAN.  EERO doesn't offer VLANs - OK I will try another approach.  I get another router and plug into the EERO, set up a subnet on the new router.  I have now have another LAN that I can dedicate to those devices and I can set up rules on the non-EERO router to limit traffic out to the internet.  The cheap $30 router I got for the job does all I need, and can route traffic to the main EERO LAN.  If I want to pass traffic to something on my subnet, I can't add a static route on my EERO.  Now I have to add a bunch of port forwarding rules to the EERO router to get to my subnet.  The EEROs were provided with by my ISP.  I am at the point of putting them up on EBay and getting another solution that can do more than basic mesh wifi.

Mjoy99 This is exactly how I did it! & I've had to embrace these things for what they can, and what they won't give me.

Personal opinion: The eero's are GREAT wifi devices, for the typical consumer. The wireless signal\reception on the 2 I have (one upstairs, one down) is pretty amazing! I don't get the wife and kids coming up to me saying things haven't connected, and everything. I can safely say that 'more than' 60% of the time.. its works all of the time!

Professional opinion: OMG... They're awful!! Can't do anything decent with them at all, and I would not be using them, if they were not given to me for free (by my ISP) and I decided to 'give them a try'. Immediately ran up against 4 or 5 blockers for my Home Lab VLAN network here in my office, so yes... I bought another device and have a bunch of port forwarding going on, much like you do, to do anything decent in my home lab. That said - a DMZ option would have been ideal for that, but noooooo... you dont get that either!! 🤯

Overall... They're awesome for eero's target audience, and I have a strong hunch that that is not you and I. I have given up on the 'hope' that static routes come to eero any time soon and IF they decide to be a little more 'technical' in the future, then fine.. but by this point in time, i'll prob be retired and will not have any F's left to give! ;p (plot twist: i'm not even 40 yet! haha)

MartynKeigher I agree 1000%.  I think I am more tempted to get a decent router that can do what I want to do then maybe just stick this as a subnet on the nicer router so my family can enjoy the great mesh wifi.  I also moved recently and had new service set up, so I have 4 of these things.  I could probably get creative with them, but yeah - definitely meant for nothing beyond being a basic hotspot.

Jeff C. Can this be considered?
