More accurate device icons?
When I name my device an Amazon Echo Dot, it looks like a giant loudspeaker. It should look like an Echo Dot.
When I name my device a Security Camera, the image should be a security camera, not a generic wireless icon.
Ditto for Nintendo Switch. The icon should look like a Nintendo Switch, or at least a generic gamepad.
And for some weird reason, naming my Belkin Wemo Mini Smart Outlet - “Wemo Mini - Noise Machine” makes it look like a TV. It should look like a smart power outlet.
I had a TP Link repeater prior to the Eero which in all ways was worse than the Eero, except that it allowed you to customize the icons in an obvious way. It’s a small polishing detail that TP Link and (especially) Apple get right. It enhances pride in ownership.
And others have expressed similar requests, for reference:

Thanks for listening!

Hi, Eperitus – Thanks for your feedback here!
As you're already aware, the eero app currently has the capability of selectively providing unique icons to devices, but as it happens the icons can be based either on hostname & manufacturer or based on device nickname. We have a pretty broad variety of icons already, and we're currently exploring ways to make the icons feature more robust and customizable. That said, however, we ask for your understanding that it may not be feasible to create unique icons for every potential device that may be connected to the network, and we'll likely continue to use more generic icons – for instance, our gamepad controller icon – for devices like Nintendo Switch.
We absolutely appreciate your continuing insights and thoughts, and we appreciate having you here in the Community!
Kindly,
Drew, eero Community Team -
Here is an example of the nice looking icons I see in HomeKit; perhaps these could be used for inspiration ...

Is there a list of the icons anywhere? Some of my Alexas have a speaker icon and some don't, yet I am using the same naming convention. Would love to understand what icons are available and what text drives them.

Hoping the mods will see this thread and give it a boost. The info on keywords and list of icons must be somewhere...

What's strange is I have 2 devices with Alexa in the title but not Amazon. One shows as a speaker and one is the default. I'm very surprised there isn't an extensive list of icons and how to get them.

What icons have you found?
So far I have seen
Phone
Laptop
Tablet
Watch
Printer
Speaker
TV
Light
Router

I think it might be best to assume that this request is a dead end, which is sad - there's a list of icons and their word associations on their end, but if they were gonna share it they'd have done it by now.

it would be cool to have an opt in program that allowed people to submit the icons they use for their devices with manufacturer and hostname (optional). Then give people this ability to pick arbitrary icons as part of that. That would eliminate the need to harvest these directly but let the community source then. I admit to have a bit of "ooh, that's nice" feel to the icons.

Here's what I've found that eero supports along with some words that trigger the device type if you put them in the name:
Computers & Personal PHONE -> iPhone, phone TABLET -> ipad, tablet, kindle MEDIA_STREAMER -> roku, tv, dvr, nas DESKTOP_COMPUTER -> machine LAPTOP_COMPUTER -> macbook, laptop UNKNOWN_COMPUTER -> ??? WATCH -> watch Entertainment GAME_CONSOLE -> ps4, wii, xbox AUDIO -> speaker CABLE_BOX -> cable Home PRINTER -> printer SECURITY_CAMERA - ??? LIGHT -> hue, lifx, light NETWORK_EQUIPMENT -> router Other GENERIC -> anything not recognized

Great list. Last year, I started a post to track the icons. You can find it here

Drew I’d simply like to know why my iphone is listed as generic when other phones on my network are not. The icons are fine.
It would be nice if the icons were selectable in settings.
