My router

I have a linksys tri-band router I like to keep it and then add a eero  to it. Can it be done?

  • Yes. Put eero in bridge mode. eero will do the wifi, but the Linksys will do the DHCP etc. You should turn off the Linksys wifi though....

If you wanted to continue using the Linksys wifi, I suppose that's possible with eero not in bridge mode, but then you're having double wifi networks. More congestion ?

cotedan87 Guess I should have read more carefully. Do you have a separate router connected to the Linksys ?

I have an Arris modem from my ISP. I've turned its wifi off so that eero can handle mostly everything in the house. I don't see a reason to have your Linksys running if you already have a separate router, adding onto that the eero. Can't really justify having router -> Linksys -> eero, if that is what you meant earlier.

  • My suggestion is to remove the Linksys altogether and plug the eero into your modem. Let eero do everything for you. Turn off wifi on your ISP modem if you can.

If you need extra Ethernet ports after the eero, just buy a cheap switch. That’s what most people do from what I see.  I’m not sure why you’d keep the Linksys in the line because eero can do everything for the network very efficiently. My two cents anyway.
