  • I would like to see this feature added as well.  Especially with the latest Senate vote to repeal any privacy regulations.

  • With the recent US Congress decision to roll back (and eliminate) privacy laws, I'd like to bring this idea front and center Jeff C.

Products like Circle and Filtr are catching on and I think Eero could eclipse Luma et al by supporting VPN connection at the router level to protect all devices. Device specific traffic direction would be great.

  • Hi everyone —

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on using a VPN natively with eero. We have definitely seen an uptick in this request given everything that is going on—however, I ask that any discussion around this topic doesn't become a political one (not that it has, but I'd like to get ahead of it). Let's try and keep all discussion regarding this matter within the space of eero and connectivity.

With that said, we don't have any news to share regarding VPN implementation. We absolutely understand the interest, and we'll continue to evaluate it on our end. In the meantime, if you'd like, eero does support VPN passthrough.

    Thanks again!

I appreciate your responsiveness to us as an Eero user community. When I first selected Eero it was under the expectation that this product was going to evolve and improve. I feel that this has yet to happen. Nor do I feel that the Eero Plus subscription service meets this request from the consumers - it’s simply a “vpn patch” for a few devices. Native VPN has been available for years elsewhere and it is past time that Eero add native VPN to its features on its current devices and not just the next generations. The novelty of a tidy little white mesh WiFi box will only last so long before the high market price drives other consumers away to mesh competitors who add theses advanced features. It has been nearly a year and as far as I can tell nothing new has come about. The idea of spending $500 and then having to set up VPN pass through is less than savory. So to that end has there been any progress on the matter?

Thanks for sharing your interest in native VPN at the eero level. This a feature we are continuing to track, and the continued feedback and interest from customers like you help us continue to share that there is an interest in bringing a feature like this to eero.

In regards to the product evolving, while this specific feature hasn't been released, our team has released many different features that have been requested by customers, including:

Thanks again. As soon as there is an update to share regarding native VPN, I will post an update to this thread.

Jeff C. These are all basic features that should have been provided to begin with. Don't try to take credit for being innovating or supporting the need of your customers. It has been over 2 years and we still cannot use of VPN shrives natively on our device that we paid and enormous amount of money for. We invested in you, why won't you invest in us?

    • Roy Wells I am also becoming really impatient with eero. I too have been waiting for this feature. I will never recommend this to the businesses i support if they don't implement such a basic feature.

  • I'm new to this whole VPN service idea.  I will be buying a service (more than likely NordVPN) within the next day or so.  I've already purchased the Eero and will receive it tomorrow.

I just want to confirm one thing I am confused about.  Is this request to allow VPN at the router level so all devices will take benefit?  Also meaning that Eero allows you to use NordVPN (or other service) but you must use one device at a time?

  • I pay for Eero Plus, which I love, and enjoy using Encrypt.me on my devices while traveling. However, not all of my devices at home are supported by Encrypt.me (i.e. TVs, Sonos, etc). I'd like to have native support for VPN on the Eero network itself. It feels like it would be a massive differentiator for the product. Happy to pay for it or have it part of Plus.

I think it would be great to be able to support the following:

    1. Overall protection for all devices.

    2. Support for per device configuration (i.e. different region per device).

    3. Ability to use different VPN providers.

  • I updated to eero plus because I thought my entire network will be secure but is only iOS and Macos devices are. I need my apple tv but they don't offer this service. Eero should get this feature because I love my eero but now I'm looking in alternative modems that can offer this feature. Integrated VPN so all my devices are secure.

Thanks for sharing your concerns, Chapino and welcome to the eero Community!

Regarding the protection of eero Plus, it will apply to all your devices on the network, not just iOS and MacOS devices. Anything that connects to the internet will be protected by the advanced security of eero Plus as long as it's on the main network. If you have any other questions about the way eero Plus works, or the features included, we definitely encourage you to call in to 877-659-2347 or email support@eero.com so we can go over everything with you and make sure you have all the facts.

As always, thanks for taking the time to be part of the eero Community. We appreciate having you here!

      Kindly,
      Drew, eero Community Team

Chapino as Drew explains, eero Plus does all devices. I have about 40 computers, iPads, phones, Nest cams, garage door openers etc that are all protected. Note that when you are away from your home, eero Plus continues to monitor house traffic. Eero Plus tends to do roughly 1000 inspections of interactions per hour even when the house is empty. So, it’s a good thing.

  • Hello. I'm a potential eero customer, and the VPN situation is the major thing holding me back from buying an eero system. I already have my own VPN service (VPN Unlimited) and password manager (Lastpass). Currently I use an old Asus router and powerline extensions, which works well enough but not very well. But the router conveniently accepts manual configuration for any VPN service. I'd probably switch to eero mesh if you would let people bring their own VPNs.

  • The reason for not including VPN native functionality, is not technical.

It is a strategic decision in order to make sure to make business on the subscription service.

You raise a good point and I question whether that is the reason for other basic features not being included (like black/white lists, etc.).  I'm not sure how well the strategy would work long term as I have switched to another solution and only use them in bridged mode now (mostly because I've not found time to sell them and to be fair, they do provide good and so far pretty solid coverage).  Thus I will not be buying more units, upgrading or recommending them to anyone at this time.  I cannot understand why they can't provide both solutions as it seems it would allow them to appeal to both technical and non-technical customers.  To me a subscription "we do it for you" offering coupled with support of DIY only seems logical.

Yes, that is the way I see it too.

I stick with my Eeros for the time being since they work really fine. I will though not buy new ones, rather wait an see if the competitors are providing similar capabilities and with VPN native that doesn’t require bonding up on  annual subscription plans.
