How do I block a website for a specific user?

I have profiles set up for all devices in the house, but want to have the ability to block specific websites for specific profiles (otherwise I'd ditch Eero plus and use an OpenVPN solution - but would rather this be user-specific)

So as of Dec 2019, the ability to block specific websites does not exist within eero.  What have users done to resolve (or work around) this in the short term?  Clearly we are in a school year now and need to do something asap then waiting for software enhancements.    Do we use a VPN?  If so, which ones work best with eero?  Can the eero dev group give us some type of guidance to work with this current gap?    (I work in software dev and we do this all the time for current product gaps).

  • Come on! Is there an update to this yet? I am getting really Fired up about the lack of basic features here

  • Seriously. Eero support. This would be very useful.

  • Seems users have been asking for this feature for two years - Its important and your competitors are offering it. I would suggest you move quickly as Google, Netgear and others offer this ability. One question I have is that domains can be blocked at the router level - what would happen if a router connected to the internet (a bridge) and then connected Eero? The idea being that the router could then block specific sites - and sites that are not blocked could leverage the speed and utility of the Eero mesh network?

  • eero, any update on blocking specific sites like youtube? It's been a year since I posted the request. Seems like the feature ask is a theme looking at the other requests

  • eero - wake up!

We are in a new day in age where our children are learning at home - they finish a school meeting and all of the sudden fire up mine craft and youtube and as a result they get in trouble later.  As a responsible manufacturer and developer of this equipment, you need to unlock this feature.  COVID-19 demands it.   Get with the program, this should not be a difficult task to simply block a domain and/or URL from specific devices and/or family profiles.  Lets go!

  • Just unplugged my Eero’s and plugged in Orbi. HUGE difference!! Much better control over what my kids can do/see. If you didn’t know, Orbi has “Circle” built-in/on-board. Too easy now to control time spent, sites visited, and other features...all built in.

  • This is starting to become a critically needed feature. It's disappointing Eero hasn't caught up with modern times yet. I've been a staunch supporter of Eero but the lack of updates and control for Eero Secure are discouraging.

Eero! Please make some improvements in this area soon before you lose all your customers. I don't want to leave Eero but competition is looking better and better.

  • I wish I had found this thread before investing in Eero, not blocking sites has become crucial during the pandemic, where my kids have to have access to electronics but I don't want them on Youtube and other sites.  I'm beyond my 30 day return date. :(  Guess I'm going to have to see them at a loss and move to Orbi.

  • I tried calling Eero support. Waiting on hold one Friday afternoon 2 weeks ago for over 1 hr and 30 min.(even though your hold message said 17 min hold time) What gives Eero?  Your support used to be Johnny on the Spot quick.

Wujo That's not an excuse. If companies have to have business continuity plans in place for every other part of their business, customer service should have one too.

  • Let me be clear. This feature is essential for parents. If you cannot deliver on this feature (and you have already had 2 years to do so), then you will lose my business. I will update my reviews on Amazon.com and I will go and purchase a different product, such as an Orbi, which does offer this feature.

Sieglock June or July ? I realised this is very important feature especially since kids are schooling from home. If it is too late then I would have look for another option and may return this router as well.

Sieglock I signed up for the secure plan, but dissapointed to see it lacked this feature. I'll agree it's a must have basic feature I'd expect. I'll have to cancel my trial until this rolls out. thanks

I want to add my voice to this chronic need.  As a parent,  you need the ability to block specific sites and to approve all new devices attempting to access the network.  Additionally a simple off option for wireless should have been a feature from the beginning.  I am very disappointed I purchased Eero as it is a huge failure.  Really a substandard product I regret installing this router.  I am ready to dig out the old net gear.  I see others have chosen Orbi.  I will check into them.  I have spoken to many eero support people about this issue.  Unresolved for too long.  Eero is not a product I can recommend

    • Drew I purchased eero last Thanksgiving, and just sold my three-pack for $150. Big loss... and I will not forgive eero for putting me in that position. Their advertising does not allude to the fact these simple features are missing.

I LOVE the parental controls on my Orbi. Fast speeds, and all the lock-down features I can need. I can even review what sites my kids are visiting.

I should have known better and simply stuck with Netgear from the start.

Njphillips01 thanks for sharing, i am thinking to sell mine and buy Orbi or Synology. Does Orbi provides free parental control or monthly subscription?

      Like
    • anil001 both. There all is a free option, and a paid option. To be 100% transparent, I do not remember what I use. I was so happy for ANY option, I would have happily paid anything.

eero totally missed this opportunity. SMH

  • I gave up on waiting for this.  Had a guy run new network cables so that we could get faster speeds, he suggested TP-Link so we switched.  We now have this feature and it's faster. Will be putting the Eeros up for sale on Ebay today!

  • Individual site blocking is only a temporary fix.  If we cannot tell our kids when and what they can view, it is only a matter of time before they learn to work around site blocking.  Every kid learns very quickly how to get around it.

Wujo Isn't that a good thing? You don't want your kids to be smart at solving problems, learn tenacity in the face of frustration, and coding for their futures? some of the best selling software right now is SELF-BLOCKING URL applications, for ADULTS who want to stay more focused on tasks without distractions during certain periods of time. I guess you're the only one on earth who is perfect. You should start a religion.

  • The fact that this is sitting as 'answered' for 2 years with a "marketing non-answer" says a lot of about Eero's direction. After waiting 2 years for this feature, I'm also changing platform. Great that someone is creating a platform this easy to implement but can't be recommended for parents or any other situation where Internet access needs to be monitored and controlled.

I've backed this company from the early days and have purchased ~10 pro devices for multiple houses. Very disappointed at the evolution of features for power users.

  • I've been monitoring this thread for a while, and signed up to comment on this. I've been using Eero for several months now, and have been extremely happy with the technology and the UI for managing the network. However, the parental controls, domain blocking, logging and options to set time limits is extremely  disappointing, especially considering this comes at an extra charge for the Eero + Advanced Setting. I wish I had bought the Orbi!!!! I hope anyone doing research finds this post and buys Orbi, to get controls which actually consider user requirements!!! Since Eero marketing clearly does not care about the customers, I will be buying the Orbi and recommending to anyone who asks to do the same!!  On a side note... even if you restrict adult content, the site still loads shows all the screen clip images but restricts the video from showing??? I emailed support on this issue, and after two weeks have not received a response...

  • I will add my voice.  This is extremely important to me.  Having the kids at home full time requires being able to control the access to content.  Seems like a really basic feature that was requested years ago.  Get on this already.

  • I am also struggling with kids doing all their school work from home while I try to do a full time job.  I'm very dissapointed my new Eero does not allow blocking of Youtube, Roblox etc in school hours.  I had my ISP router set up to block these websites on a schedule.  My gateway Eero now receives internet feed from the router, and I thought these blocks would still work. Unfortunately it appears that with the gateway Eero now handling the DNS, it is able to evade the router's domain blocks.  So I have in effect paid a lot of money to Eero to ruin my kids homework and home schooling. I'm not happy about this.

anil001 Did you remove all your eero profiles and only use Circle Home Plus?  I'm looking at adding Circle Home Plus to our eero network and set up profiles in Circle.  Do you find that better at blocking specific websites?  We've used Circle v1 before, but struggled with compatibility.  Looks like Circle Home Plus is integrated better.

mrpme1 dont need eero profiles anymore or doesn't matter even if exists there. The circle device does everything that's needed, you can block sites or known categories. Also, allows unlimited access to something if needed (e.g. learning site). I am using 2nd gen device and there is absolutely no problem.

anil001 Thank you so much for the information.  We use 2nd gen eero currently and adding Circle v2 looks to be much better than v1.  Are you also using Circle to monitor cell devices?  With teenagers in the house with cell devices, it looks like Circle can monitor them outside the home.  We also use Boomerang Parental Control and Bark to better track messaging and flagging key words.  Circle doesn't track any texting traffic.  thanks again...

  • Very disappointing to see this thread going for two years and still no ability to simply block a specific website nor any parental controls. Will be unplugging all my Eero Devices this week and going with a different solution.

  • Look, with everyone's kids at home right now, you're losing customers daily. You MUST ADD this ability to the eero or you will continue to lose customer after customer. It's not enough to PAUSE devices or schedule these pauses. You need to be able to schedule URL access and pause access to SITES, as well. People have been asking for this for 2 years now, there is no excuse anymore. GET IT DONE.
