How do I block a website for a specific user?

I have profiles set up for all devices in the house, but want to have the ability to block specific websites for specific profiles (otherwise I'd ditch Eero plus and use an OpenVPN solution - but would rather this be user-specific)

    Hi  johnbatzer

Thanks for reaching out and for your question!

With eero Plus, you can turn on specific filters to block out content for specific profiles that have been created.

To do so, open the eero app, tap the menu button, and tap on Family Profiles. Once you've selected the profile you'd like to set the filter on, tap on Safe Filters. You will have the option to turn SafeSearch, as well as content filtering for websites related to adult, illegal, and/or violent material. Any settings changed will only be for this specific profile, so it will be necessary to add additional filters to other profiles.

In regards to blocking specific sites, this isn't a feature available in eero Plus. Happy to share this feedback with the team. With that said, if one of these filters are not blocking a site that you believe they should be, please don't hesitate to contact support@eero.com so our team can take any necessary action.

Hope this helps, John! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

thanks for the update. I’ve cancelled Eero Plus for the time being and went back to using OpenVPN - it’s a parenting thing - I take away YouTube from time to time - not a huge deal for the adults in the house - but a huge deal to the kids. But turning off the services which access YouTube turn off things the adults do need.

Let me know if/when this activated.

I also want the ability to easily and temporarily block certain sites like YouTube. That way during homework time they can access their homework site and not get distracted.

Same here I cancelled the trial as soon as I could block YouTube for my younger kids.   Please add this feature per user per device

smithwm66 Did you find a way to do this with Eero?

This would be great.  I'd like to block social media for my kids (facebook, twitter, etc).  Specific site blocking per profile is important.  Thank you.

ppedrazzi you can block specific sites on their PC's or laptops quite easily. You'll need to go into the"system 32" folde in the windows folder on the C drive. From here you'll need to drill down.

C drive >windows>system32>drivers>etc>host Here you'll rt clck and select notepad and ok. At the bottom of the last line of code type this line of code...

      127.0.0.1 www.youtube.com

      Now Goto file > save>exit

Now you've blocked YouTube on any browser period using this device.

cgoo often with multiple kids and bedtimes, it's easiest to just be able to do it remotely especially if there are multiple computers/iPads/iPhones in the house. Setting each one manually on/off every time is a huge pain.

Jeff C. Parent here. Family Profiles would be perfect if I could block a specific site like youtube. I use Eero family profiles extensively to manage how much screen access my two children get, which is a massive ongoing headache for me and a constant source of arguments. I'm in the app all the time flipping access on and off depending on the situation. I need flexibility to block certain things while allowing others. Not sure if this is on your roadmap, but I would pay extra for this, it is so worth it to me. Give me site specific blocking in family profiles and I will be able to deal with a huge family pain point. It is literally the only thing that makes Eero less than perfect.

Would really like to see this as well. May be time to explore installing Meraki at home.  Some of the features missing are very basic and not being addressed over time. Other platforms have solutions for these already and while not as simple as eero they at least work better for us parents.  Would love to see a timeframe on granular site blockings...

joediianni I’m trying the Netgear Orbi with Disney Circle so for it’s the best one i’m found.   The performance is great and the parental controls are awesome!

smithwm66 I don't suppose these will work if your kid know about incognito mode in chrome, right?

laura Yes, it’s blocking it at the network or device level so their is no way to get around it.   They even have another option that will block the same thing on the Go if they spent the night at a friends house or if we are staying in an hotel for vacation.

smithwm66 how are you using Netgear Orbi (Disney Circle) with eero? Or did you just buy the supported Netgear routers? Also does Orbi have ability to block specific sites for specific devices at specific times?

sherazkhan I stop using the Eero and switched to the Netgear Orbi (Disney Circle)   I loved the support from Eero and product interface but the advance features and filtering was just lacking.    The performance on the Orbi has been much better also since i had the original Eero devices.

All, this is the SPECIFIC need we parents want. Yes eero plus (that I have and paid for) is very good for filtering sites and content I don’t know about but as other users indicated I need the ability to block Fortnite and YouTube while still allowing for homework. When is it going to be possible. I cannot be a large change since website blocking is available in web browsers.

I would also like to see the ability to block certain websites..... Such as YouTube. I do not understand why this is not listed as a planned feature. If my kids were online at the time I purchased the Eero system........ not having this feature would have had me look at other solutions.

Please add customizable content/site blocking, e.g., Youtube, and other time sinks for children.  I moved from Orbi to Eero because of your excellent, reliable product and customer service.  Orbi's firmware updates crashed my network and took a month with Netgear's support without resolution.  Without reliability and great customer support, additional features like Disney Circle is not worth it in my case.

Just purchased euro plus with the specific goal of blocking you tube.   Very disappointed that the Eero developers have not developed a simple solution in 11 months since this site has been started.  I may ask for my money back.

    Jeff C. and Eero Team,

Can someone respond if Eero is working on this?  I understand that this may be more difficult that some of us really understand, but after almost a year, I would hope this has made it up the list of improvements.

Also, I disagree that this has been "answered".  Yes, Eero responded, but either they are not going to make this change, or they are and they are working on it.  I guess I am asking for a reevaluation of if the topic is truly "answered"

    Thanks VTCC93
