Best extender option?

I currently have a 3 node eero 5 system with two of the devices connected via ethernet. I want to add another device upstairs in a bonus room but have no plans to add ethernet connections in this room so the unit will need to operate wirelessly. I was never a fan of the Beacon because if it's high price but with the huge sale on it is slightly less than just adding another eero 5 node. I understand the advantage of the node to hardwire if the need ever changes but for a pure connectivity and increased speed which option would be best or would they basically perform the same? Also would there be a benefit or any issues with getting a eero 6 and changing it out to be my gateway and putting the current node upstairs as an extender? Thanks.

  • Hello robusto400 ,

In regards to using the eero 6 as your Gateway. It would help with devices connecting to the Gateway and those devices would be able to connect to WiFi 6 if they are able to. But it wouldn't really help the rest of the network much. The main reasons to purchase a beacon are it's utility and design. The beacon will perform pretty much the safe as a standard eero 5. I have shared a link below that will let you compare the different models.
