Option to Disable 2.4ghz band.  Force all Wifi communication over 5ghz.

Option to Disable 2.4ghz band.  Force all Wifi communication over 5ghz.

I live in a very dense condominium building with 4 floors, many units over a city block.  eero is great because you can have multiple access points (I use 2) to communicate on each floor of my condo.

In reality, DISTANCE is not an issue.  Just having the strongest 5ghz signal that doesn't need to travel far.

I'd like the ability to force disable 2.4ghz band.  All the devices in my home can connect over 5ghz.  Range is not an issue now that I have eero.  I don't want a device to accidentally connect over 2.4ghz where there is so much interference in a building such as mine.

How many users need to ask for a feature for it to be considered?

The eero app already have the “eero Labs” tab has (currently) only wpa3.

    Consider a new option is added for “frequency” with 3 options: 5, 2.4 and 5 + 2.4

I believe this would not affect usability or easy of use for any user.

  • same experience here just switched from cheap BT hub which was delivering 500mb around my house and now eero pro 6 it’s forcing 2.4 connections everywhere this is ridiculous. Give us optionally, I’m calling my ISP to swap this out for another brand.

  • I would also like to add my support for this idea.

2.4 Ghz bands can be crowded. More = more interference.

I just went to take a look in the UI and was disappointed to see there is no option to turn it off. I have other 2.4 Ghz equipment in the house that is separate as well as so many bluetooth devices, and I don't need 2.4Ghz lan.

Every other router i've used offers this option. I respect the desire to keep things as simple and automatic as possible, however this is an interaction with the external environment that can't be controlled.

  • Absolutely ridiculous that this option isn’t available, despite a clear need. The crappy budget router that came with my parent’s broadband connection can do this. 2.4GHz is literally unusable where I live (and at my parents’, but lucky them, they’re able to disable it). Band steering doesn’t work, support cannot help. I’m left with no choice but to get rid of my Eero and find something that does allow this. Obviously I won’t be purchasing any more Eero products, and recommending to anyone I know that they don’t either.

tuckerjj I think I read somewhere  that eero support can disable 2.4? not sure if that is just temporarily or permanently

I know it’s not a replacement for what is being asked here, but may be worth contacting them?

planetf1 I already opened a ticket with support and was told that this wasn’t possible. If you have any links to something that says otherwise I’d love to see them!

tuckerjj  sorry I don’t have anything specific. I vaguely remember reading it, but it was before they showed temporary 2.4 disable so May we’ll have been just related to that. Just wanted to suggest asking, which you’ve done :-(

  • I’m guessing this still isn’t fixed and there still isn’t an option to choose between which bands you want to use, received this router yesterday from my ISP as it’s a new upgraded router they are using yet my old one I could use either bands and had much more user options it seems, is this ever gonna get added it seems there is so much demand for it going back 3 years or so?.
