Best way to setup the Eero Pro with an existing router
Hello all, I have a Netgear Nighthawk which I intend to keep as my main router (it's hooked to my FIOS Gateway 1100 but I have it bridged only to support my FIOS TV)
I currently have 3 Eero stations and 1 Eero Beacon in the Eero system and I would like to NOT have to bridge the Eero...
What's the best way to set up the Eero and take advantage of all it's features without bridging it?
Hi, Xenecus – thanks for sharing your question, and welcome to the eero Community!
So, generally speaking, we recommend that personal 3rd party routers be removed, and for eero to be the primary router connected to your ISP equipment. That said, if you prefer to use the Nighthawk as the gateway, you can run the eeros behind them unbridged in a double NAT configuration.
The main thing to keep in mind with a double NAT is that devices connected to the Nighthawk and to the eero are going to be on different subnets, and won't be able to communicate with each other. Bridging, by contrast, will allow the devices to all exist on the same subnet, but will disable most advanced features on the eero.
If you have any other questions about optimizing your network, please post them and myself and the Community would be happy to help – you can also call us directly at 877-659-2347 and we'd be happy to assist over the phone!
