HP printer wireless setup issue

I recently installed four eeros in my home. My iMac (OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan) cannot find my printer. I am trying to connect my HP Envy 7640.  The printer gives me the following message when printing the network details:

"ATTENTION: More than one access point/wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network name (SSID).  If this is not intended, your HP printer may connect to the wrong wireless network.  To avoid this, change your wireless network name (SSID) to be unique."

The eero app sees my printer as a connected device.

Can anyone advise?

  • I found the simplest solution is to assign a static IP and then install the HP printer manually

rgreenpc - Thank you so much for this. I have a Brother 3170 CDW Color Laser which was previously on an Apple network and worked flawlessly. I tried a fresh setup (factory reset the printer) and it refused to work wirelessly. I called tech support and they told me it was probably a dual band issue - the printer was switching rapidly between 2.4 and 5GHz because it was so close to the beacon. I then plugged it into the Ethernet port of the router in a different room, still no success. I wasn't happy, because I had to carry 20lb or so of bulky laser printer up more than 20 stairs to find it didn't work.

I am not a network expert, but I can look stuff up. :-)  Once I found your post, I assigned a static IP on the Brother using the LCD screen menu for wireless (IPv6 off), based on similar network numbers in our WAN. I then found the deeply hidden static IP assignment on the eero App in Network>Advanced>Reservations and entered the same number followed by Save. All is peaceful and happy in our home office now. Thank you once again. 😍

There must be something about the Apple setup that messes with the eero setup, even if you think you have done a reset on the printer. Never mind, it works now. 👍

Dawn that fixed it for me. On Brother Printer: Static IP and IPv6 off. Then add the printer to “reservations” in eero app. Huge help. If you’re having trouble finding an AirPrint printer on the eero network (like my Brother HL-L8360CDW laser printer), I’d give this a try.
